GERALD L. DEVAUGHN, M.D.
Dr. DeVaughn is a native Philadelphian. He was educated
in the Philadelphia Public School System and graduated
from Central High School. His undergraduate studies were
done at the University of Bridgeport, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology.
Returning to Philadelphia, he attended Hahnemann
Medical College where he received his degree in
medicine. Continuing at Hahnemann, he did a residency in internal medicine and subsequently traveled to Louisville,
Kentucky for a fellowship in cardiovascular disease.
Dr. DeVaughn was awarded the Waldron Distinguished Community Service Award by Mercy Hospital of
Philadelphia for his efforts in cardiovascular risk
reduction programs. He is also a clinical associate
professor of medicine at Drexel University Collage of
Medicine and participates in the teaching programs at D.U.C.O.M. and Mercy Health Systems. He was awarded
the outstanding teacher of the year award by the house
staff at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in 1990, and the Emergency Medicine house staff at The Medical College
of Pennsylvania (now Drexel University College of
Medicine in 1993 and 2005).
In 1992, Dr. DeVaughn was appointed Vice-President
of Medical Affairs at Mercy Hospital of Philadelphia.
His responsibilities includ professional program
development, quality assurance and physician compliance
issues at Mercy Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. DeVaughn
completed his second term on the board of the Association of Black Cardiologist (ABC) in March of 2006. His 2 year term
as President of ABC will begin in March of 2006. |
